Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater

Jay and I took Truett and Emma to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch yesterday. The past couple of years, we've just gone to the smaller pumpkin patch in Coppell, but decided that Truett was old enough to really enjoy the big pumpkin patch. So, we loaded up the truck and headed out. When we pulled up, we were almost immediately overwhelmed because apparently EVERYBODY's kids were 'old enough to enjoy the big pumpkin patch'! Jay and I took a deep breath and went in with guns blazin'! :) Actually, once we found a parking spot and started walking around, we realized it wasn't NEARLY as chaotic as it appeared. The people who put this shindig on have it down to a science and despite the massive crowds, things ran pretty smoothly.

I noticed right away that the Pumpkin Patch was nothing but anticipatory parents hoping to get the perfect shot of their little Halloween 'treats' all dolled up in either sweet little costumes or pumpkin outfits. Of course, Jay and I were no exception! Here is the "perfect shot" we managed to get...the best one out of 10 shots!

Here was Emma in true "Emma fashion"...sound asleep through the whole thing!

We started at the bounce houses and giant slide...always favorites of Truett's. Jay and I were cracking up because as I was nervously looking around to make sure Truett was in the "4 and under" aged bounce house (don't want him getting trampled by the big kids!), and the whole time, Truett was in there tackling all of the little kids. I guess the past 2 years of tackling and playing with his Uncle John has led Truett to believe that he is a 13 year old boy! :)

After the bounce houses and giant slides, we headed to the pumpkin patch to find the perfect pumpkin. I thought the pumpkin right in the middle of this picture was it, but Jay and Truett had other ideas. I can't wait until Emma is old enough to get a vote because 2 boys against 1 girl just doesn't get me the results I'm usually looking for.

Truett finally decided on a big pumpkin for our house, in addition to a small pumpkin for himself and a smaller one for Emma. Jay goes to the cashier to pay for the pumpkins and she tells him that the big pumpkin that we chose costs $36... A PUMPKIN!

So, here are Truett and Emma with their little pumpkins. :) We'll be going to the grocery store today to purchase our "$4.99 with Reward Card" pumpkin at Tom Thumb!

As we wrapped up our pumpkin purchase, we headed over to the other side of the patch where all of the wooden characters are. By this time, Truett was thirsty and worn out, and pretty much over it. He did manage to hug his favorite Backyardigan buddies and climb in and out of a fire truck, but other than that, he was pumpkinned out!

Fireman Truett
Bob the Builder...Yes we can!

Truett showing some love to the Backyardigans...Uniqua, Austin & Tyrone

Papa and Truett...witch and scarecrow

All-in-all, the pumpkin patch was pretty successful and we will definitely head out there again next year. Hopefully I'll get better pics next year, but to end this blog, I'll post one last 'perfect picture' that was taken by some lady at the 'patch'. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my husband for telling me how cute I look, despite the obvious truth! He could have at least told me to do something with my hair! :) hahahahah!

Happy Halloween!

Short and Sweet

My grandma (MawMaw) came for a quick visit last weekend. My parents had gone to Louisiana for a wedding and my grandma flew back with them so she could see Truett and Emma. She flew back home the following day, but it was great to see her and visit with her. Truett was excited to see her and Emma was happy to sleep in her arms!

MawMaw and Emma meet for the first time.

My mom and MawMaw
Four generations of ladies...

Thank you, MawMaw, for making the trip to see us. We love you very much and hope to visit with you again SOON!

6th in 6th

A friend of mine (who also has a blog) had someone pass on to her, the idea to post the 6th picture that was in the 6th folder of her picture files on the computer. I was curious to see what that picture was for me, and this is the picture that was there.
It's a picture of Truett from March of THIS year. Some of you may not be able to tell, but to me, he looks so much like a little baby in this picture. If I had not had the date on the file folder, I would have thought this was a picture from last year. It's crazy just how much they change and grow in a short period of time!

This picture was taken at the playground at the elementary school where I was teaching at the time. Jay and Truett had come up to the school with me on a Saturday so I could work in my classroom. Obviously, a 1 and a half-year-old and a 2nd grade classroom don't go well together, so Jay took Truett outside to play while I worked.

Have I mentioned that I LOVE the fact that I'm not teaching this year????

My Little Ragweed Baby

If there was one thing I could have chosen to NEVER pass on to my kids, I would have to say it would either be my weakness for baked goods :) or my HORRIBLE allergies. Emma has been congested for the past few days and I thought it was maybe a cold. She hadn't had fever and wasn't cranky or anything but I could tell she wasn't feeling 'good' because her appetite had decreased and I could hear how stopped up her little nose was.
I decided to take her to the doctor this morning (our pediatrician just so happens to also specialize in pediatric allergies) and as soon as I told him her symptoms, he confirmed that it was allergies and not a cold. BOOOOOO!

For now Emma will be on a saline nose spray/nose pump routine right along with her mama! We'll be saline it and nose pumping it 3-4 times a day for the next 4 weeks (supposedly that's when 'allergy season'/ragweed will clear up). The doctor sucked out the funk that was in her nose this morning and she seemed to get some relief from that. She fed really well for her following feeding, so hopefully that means her appetite is returning.

Perhaps she'll be spared from the Krispy Kreme curse! :)

It's Too Soon!

So, earlier, I asked Truett if he wanted to go and get in bed so that I could lay with him and read a book to him. His answer to me? "No...I so busy right now!"

He's 2 and already is 'so busy' for his mom!!

A Rare Sighting

I had to post a few pictures of Emma with her eyes open because it is a RARE occassion! This child sleeps more than any child I've known. I have to set an alarm clock during the night to wake me up so that I can wake HER up to feed her. The dr. says she needs to eat every 3 hours, but if it were up to her, she'd sleep her life away. Sleep over eating??? Are we SURE this is OUR child???

Sunscreen

We went to my mom's house after our doctor's visit yesterday. As soon as we got there, I put Truett down for his afternoon nap. His usual routine consists of me tucking him in and then giving him a stack of books for him to look at/read. Well, an hour after putting him down, he was still WIDE AWAKE! I kept thinking he was going to fall asleep at any minute, but it never happened.

Anyway, when my sister, Sarah, got home from school at 3:30, she asked if she could go and say hi to Truett. Since he wasn't sleeping and showed no signs of falling asleep any time soon, I let her go in to see him. A minute later, Sarah walks in with Truett, who has taken off his shorts AND his diaper and has some white cream all over his face and hair.

I asked him what he had on his face and he said, "Sunscreen!" I asked him where his diaper was and he said, "In my room. I put sunscreen on my booty." (All with a HUGE smile on his face!)

I go to his room to assess the 'damages' and find that he did not put sunscreen on his face, but in fact, it was DESITIN!

Did I mention how awesome it is having a curious, 2-year-old boy???

Parents are Liars!

This post is kind of lenghty and there are no pics, but I wanted to 'document' our trip to the doctor! :)

Jay and I took Truett to the doctor yesterday to get his annual flu shot. Jay and I also got them because little Emma is considered high-risk, being that 0-6 month olds can't get the flu shot. So, we get to the dr.'s office and Jay and I start talking up the shot like it's a trip to Disney and Truett is the luckiest boy in the world to be getting it. Poor thing...he fell for it hook, line and sinker. I think he thought he had hit the jackpot!

The nurse brought us back to the exam room and tells us she's going to give Jay and I our shots first so Truett can see us get them and see that it's not a big deal. Yeah, well, I'm not big on needles or pain and although the needle didn't hurt, the vaccination itself did sting. But, again, Jay and I both acted like it was the most awesome experience ever!

Truett was sitting on Jay's lap and the nurse said, "Okay, are you read?" Truett, with a big smile on his face said, "YES!" Yeah, well, she stuck him and the smile immediately turned into a look of horror and shock as in, "What in God's name just happened????" Jay and I instantly start clapping and high fiving Truett and all the while, he's gazing at us with this confused look on his face like, "Are you serious?" But, our big boy never even cried and soon forgot about the horrible lie we had told him once he got a cup filled with gummy bears from the nurse.

Emma also had an appointment with the nurse...not for a flu shot, but for her 'Biggest Loser' weigh in. When she was born, she weighed 9 lbs., 2 oz. When we left the hospital, she was down to 8 lbs., 7 oz. When we brought her in for her 1 week check up last week, she was down, again, to 8 lbs., 3 oz. I was worried that the doctor would tell me I had to start supplimenting with formula. He wasn't too concerned about the weight loss, but told us to bring her in yesterday to check her weight again. When the nurse weighed her, she was 8 lbs., 13 oz.! She had gained 10 oz. in a week...yeah!!!! So, looks like we're on the right track. Don't know why Jay and I ever doubted the appetite of a child of ours! :)

Open House

I just realized that I never posted about Truett's Open House!

So, we dropped Emma off at my mom's house and Nannie Emily and Aunt Sarah were there to take of Emma (it was National Night Out in my mom and dad's neighborhood). Jay, Truett and I headed to Truett's school and as we pulled up, a little girl from his class was walking in at the same time. Truett's face lit up immediately and he couldn't wait to run in after her.

As we walked in, the director was taking each family's picture. When it was our turn, Truett said, "Come on! Let's take a picture!" He was so excited to be there with Jay and I...I was really glad I had decided to go.

We walked around to the different classrooms to meet his teachers. All of them commented on how bright and sweet and precious Truett is. Now, I'm sure they say those things to all of the parents, but Jay and I know that they really MEAN it when they say it to us! :)

We talked to Ms. Ade', Truett's FAVORITE Spanish teacher. She was an aide in his classroom last year and he absolutely LOVES her!
We also talked to Ms. Debbie, who is his new teacher this year. He started this year in a different room with a different teacher, but she no longer works for the school, so he was moved to a different room with a new teacher. I was a little worried about it because I figured a new baby sister was a big enough transition for him, but he seems to be doing pretty well. The good thing is that his friends from this year were also moved to the same class with him, so that helped. Not to mention that the theme for his new classroom is VeggieTales...or as Truett likes to call them "Sponge Bob and Larry".We met Ms. Kimia, who teaches music. Jay and Truett took a break and had a little jam session together in the music room. Ms. Kimia said Truett loves music and really enjoys banging the instruments...ummm...YEAH he does...the beat up walls and furniture all over my house is proof of THAT!
And finally, we met Ms. Amanda, who teaches Fun and Fitness. Aubry was in there at the same time, so Truett was thrilled to play with her. I was hoping that the running around in the gym would wear him out a little so that he wouldn't be so wired come bedtime.

When Open House was over, Truett got a cookie and some lemonade and we headed back to LeeLa and PaGou's house for supper.

Truett left with Uncle John to enjoy the festivities at National Night Out...yeah! More energy-burning activities!!!
Obviously, Truett's Open House wasn't anything extrodinary but it couldn't have been scheduled at a better time. Emma was only a few days old, but this gave Jay and I a chance to make a fuss over Truett without Emma being involved. Plus, Truett really enjoyed it!

Emma's Room

Here are some pictures of Emma's room. I posted some in a previous blog, but it was before her room was finished. I thought I'd post pics of her room now. It turned out to be such a sweet and sassy little girl's room. I really love it!

This is the name plate that hangs on the outside of her bedroom door. My aunt, Fran, sent it to me a few weeks ago. It was the perfect touch!

These are the paintings that my sister, Emily (Emma's godmother) painted for Emma's room. I had seen these paintings at Pottery Barn Kids when I bought Emma's bedding and thought they were so great. When I showed them to Emily, she said she thought she could paint them. They look EXACTLY like the originals and turned out so great!
I should've taken a better picture to show of these sweet little dresses...perhaps another time, another post! :) Anyway, my mom 'gave' (a.k.a. 'let me use') these dresses to make a valence over Emma's bedroom window. They have been in our family for over 60 years...not like anything you'd find in stores today. They are such a sweet, sentimental and personal touch in her room.
Here's a little better shot of the dresses.
Here are some shots of the individual paintings Emily did. I just love them so much and am so proud of Emily for doing such a great job...have to show them off!

This is the wall in Emma's room, opposite the wall with the paintings.

The corner piece and the little rocking chair are pieces that my mom bought for me when I was a baby. They were also in Truett's room, but were 'passed down' to Emma. We stained them the darker color to match the rest of Emma's room. The wall is one of my favorite parts of Emma's room. Her bedding is white with pink stitching. When I decorated Truett's nursery, I did something similiar (his bedding was striped, so on the one, big wall, I painted wide, vertical stripes and kept the remaining walls pretty simple). If I could paint all of the rooms in my house this way, I would. I think it's a great way to get away with doing something bold without it being overwhelming. (I'm cracking up at myself typing this because I sound like I work for the DIY network!) Anyway, I love the wall!

Of course, what would a nursery be without a little monogramming???? This quilt rack was something that Jay built in woodshop when he was in highschool. He originally made it for his grandmother and got it back when she passed away a few years ago. It matched perfectly with the corner piece and rocker that my mom had bought for me, and was also passed on from Truett to Emma. So, I used to say that I wasn't a 'pink' person, but I think it's safe to say that ever since I found out Emma was an 'Emma', I have acquired a definite taste for any and all things pink. The scary thing is that I have a feeling once I've grown out of my 'pink phase', Emma will just be picking up the addiction! :)
